Working with files

Upload, find and download your agent's files, keep its workspace tidy, and recover from mistakes.

In this tutorial

Your agent has its own computer with its own files, and you can see all of them. Send it files in chat, browse and manage them in the Files tab, and download whatever it makes for you. This page covers how, plus how to keep the workspace tidy and recover from mistakes.

Send your agent a file

The quickest way is in chat. Click the paperclip, drag a file in, or paste it. Any file type works, and images show a thumbnail. Files you send in chat are saved in the uploads folder on your agent's computer, so it can come back to them later.

You can also send files through Telegram or WhatsApp once they're connected. See connect your agent to Telegram.

The Files tab

Open your agent and click Files in the left menu. You'll see your agent's folders, with the current path along the top.

  • Move around: click a folder to open it, or Up one folder to go back.
  • List or grid: switch views from the toolbar.
  • Show hidden files: click it to see folders that start with a dot, like your agent's settings and memory.
  • Refresh: reload if your agent has just created something.
  • New folder: make a folder.
  • Upload: choose Files or a whole Folder, or drag and drop onto the page.
  • On each item: download, rename or delete. Folders download as a single .tar.gz archive.
  • Preview: click images, PDFs, text files and web pages to preview them.

You can't edit text inside the Files tab. To change a file, ask your agent, or download it, edit it on your computer and upload it again.

Get files back from your agent

Ask your agent to save its work as a file and tell you where. Then download it from Files.

Your agent can also send files to you through a connected app, like attaching them to an email with Gmail or saving them to Google Drive. See Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sheets.

Where did my files go?

Agents sometimes save things somewhere unexpected. To find a file:

  1. Ask your agent: "Where did you save the launch email? Give me the full path."
  2. Check the uploads folder for anything you sent in chat.
  3. Click Show hidden files in Files and look in your agent's workspace folder.
  4. Ask it to search: "Find every file with 'launch' in the name that you created this week."

Your agent can't see files on your own laptop or phone. It only has what you send it, what's on its computer, and what it can reach through connected apps.

Keep the workspace tidy

Without guidance, agents create duplicate files ("final", "final-v2", "final-really") and scatter them around. A short set of rules in its working instructions fixes most of it.

When something goes wrong

It edited the wrong file. Ask it to tell you exactly what it changed and to undo it. Next time, give the full path of the file you mean.

It deleted something by mistake. Ask straight away what it deleted and whether it can recover it. If the file lives in a connected app like Google Drive or GitHub, the app's own trash or history can usually bring it back. To be safe, keep a downloaded copy of anything important, and add a rule that it must ask before deleting files.

"Permission denied" when saving. Your agent is trying to write somewhere it isn't allowed. Ask it to save inside its own home folder or workspace instead.

It can't read my PDF. Scanned PDFs are images of text, which can be harder to read. Try uploading a text-based PDF, or images of the pages, and ask it to describe what it can see.

The disk is full. Each agent has 8 GB of storage. The Usage tab shows how much is used. Ask your agent to list its largest files and folders, then delete what you don't need.
